All Pit Bulls cannot be as terrible as they are rumored to be, right?

I’ve known a lot of Pit’s that are gentle, sweet, and loving with kids. Then I hear the stories about the Pit’s that attack children, killing them, or their owners. In South Jordan it is against the law to own a Pit Bull. If you do own one they will put it down. Sad. :( Personally I think that Pit Bull’s have a bad rap. The ones that I have known are so sweet, but to be perfectly honest I would still be afraid of getting one for my family. Darn you media! And darn you people that abuse your dogs and make them mean.

A couple of weeks ago I was at Petsmart with my little punks, doing some pet training for our Chiweenie, Meesa. While there I was stopped dead in my tracks by this BEAUTIFUL Pit Bull puppy. Right away I ripped out my business card and presented it to the owners and asked if I could photograph her.

Two weeks later, and 4 pounds heavier Keely (the pup), Stephanie, Weston, and I got together for these cute photos. Here is a sample of the fun we had last night. :)

I would like to give a big thanks to Weston, Stephanie, and Keely for letting me put them through torture. I do hope you like the pics. You are such a beautiful family I may have the two of you model for me soon, so watch out!

Jessica Hughes Photography adds wall displays by KDub Designs

Dear friends and clients,

I know it is hard when you have to choose which photos you would like to proudly hang in your home. For this reason I have invested in wall displays made by KDub Designs. It will help you decide where you would like to hang your photos, what sizes would be best, how much space you need, and which photos will look best as a set. Although in the samples you will see a matt with the frame, this is what I do, and usually tell my clients so they can save on framing prices.Whether it is canvas (my fav) or regular prints I don’t like to use a matt or glass. I like to have the sprayed with a lacquer finish, then framed. I think it has a more artistic appeal. I also go cheapo. I find my frames at Hobby Lobby when they are half off. If you take your print in, purchase at open back frame, they will actually put it together for you so it is ready to hang. I understand that prints can be very expensive and add up quickly, this is why I like to do it this way with framing because framing is even more expensive than prints.Dear photographers,

If you don’t have these wall templates you should get them! So easy to use and it also helps when proofing and even shooting. You can design a display in your head by consulting with your clients before the shoot, finding out where in their home they would like to hang their portraits, then work it all out in your head. :) You can purchase them here, and now they are 10% off. Check out her other templates as well. You won’t believe the prices! I’ll probably be bragging on her for a while as I put my samples together.

Please enjoy the examples below. There are only 4 of 25 designs.

Beautiful West Jordan family

Saturday I was lucky enough to photograph this beautiful West Jordan family. It was a fun mini session. Their 2 year old boy was a charmer, their 2 month old baby made my heart melt. She is absolutely precious, and she only peed on her Dad once. ;)

Salt Lake City photographer Jessica Hughes gets national recognition in Rangefinder Magazine

Yes, yes…it’s me! I’m very excited to be published in Rangefinder Magazine’s August issue. It is an honor and I couldn’t be more thrilled. If you have a minute, please check it out.  When you are on the site you should sign up for a free subscription. There are no obligations. It really is a beautiful magazine with a lot of wonderful artists.

I also had the opportunity to do an interview for The Perfect Pose, How to Pose for Photography blog. It was a fun interview. Please check it out and spread the word! It’s a great blog. I’ve been reading through it for a few days and have learned quite a bit. Travis Hill is a very talented photographer and has many good tips for all of us. Best part…it’s free!!

As usual, I can’t just post without and image. :) This is my beautiful little cousin Claire. Isn’t she stunning?

And this is my very lovely aunt Spacey (Stacey). She thinks she is ugly. I think she’s crazy. I’m always flattered when people tell me that I resemble her.

Utah family helping to heal hearts

Have you ever had a life changing moment and instead of falling, you fight. You fight with all the love in your heart and in the end you become a better person, you inspire others to become better people, and you know that you have succeeded beyond all hope that you might have had. 11 years ago Gabe and Heather Griffith gave birth to their beautiful son, Noah. He was born with a heart defect. I don’t know about you, but I cannot imagine what they went through surgery after surgery. Year after year. Noah is now a healthy 11 year old boy. Charming, sweet, handsome, AND he has worked hard to get his black belt in Karate. What’s next for Noah? He is now learning how to play the guitar. Very cool.

Heather and Gabe are involved in Intermountain Healing Hearts. They have reached out to our communities to get help and bring awareness to congenital heart defects. If you have a minute, which I know you do, check it out. If you can join the Intermountain Healing Hearts Walk on September 11th you will see me there snapping away, and perhaps doing a little walking myself.

For now, check out this beautiful family. They amaze me. Heather, you are such a wonderful person. Thank you for the opportunity of getting to know you better and photographing your family.

With a gorgeous daughter starting her senior year, their youngest starting kindergarten, can you believe the passion between these two? I felt like I was doing their engagement portraits. Absolutely beautiful.

what? me? rebranding again?

I know it’s a dangerous game, but I’m at it again. Revamping the biz. While I am doing this please forgive all the unbearable sights you may see as I change colors around on my blog and site. Could get crazy funky!

In the meantime, check out this fun portrait party I did for these beautiful girls. If you didn’t know, slumber photo parties are the only way to go!

Angels and Airwaves * Salt Lake City, Utah

One of my many dreams came true on Monday. My favorite band, Angels and Airwaves played ‘In the Venue’ in Salt Lake. It was awesome! I was surprised with a photo pass, which was fabulous!

They sounded great, looked fantastic, and made a memorable night. If you haven’t heard of them, you are missing out. Did you know that you can download their latest album ‘LOVE’ for free here? It’s heavenly.

Some cool pics from the show.
